Fire and Building Code Consulting

Most permit delays trace back to one of three things: an occupancy classification that does not match how the building will be used, a fire protection system that was never designed for the current operation, or a plan review comment that nobody on the project team can answer with a code section. IgnitionTech resolves all three.

The firm reads the adopted code the way the fire marshal reads it, writes the analysis the reviewer needs to see, and attends the meeting when a comment needs to be worked out in person. The result is a permit package that moves instead of one that sits in a correction cycle.

What IgnitionTech delivers

  • Written code analysis covering occupancy classification, allowable height and area, construction type, fire separation, and egress
  • Plan review comment responses with the code basis for each item, ready to upload to the jurisdiction's portal
  • Alternative materials and methods requests and technical assistance reports formatted for the AHJ
  • Peer review of third-party code reports and life safety plans
  • Representation at AHJ meetings and pre-submittal conferences

Who receives and approves it

The authority having jurisdiction (fire marshal and building official), the architect of record, and the owner or tenant.

Codes and standards

  • 2021 International Fire Code (IFC) and 2021 International Building Code (IBC), with the local amendments adopted by each Texas jurisdiction
  • IBC Chapter 3 (use and occupancy), Chapter 5 (height and area), Chapter 10 (means of egress)
  • IFC §104.8.2 (technical assistance) and §104.10 (alternative materials and methods)
  • NFPA 101 (2021) where adopted by the jurisdiction or required by an insurer

Editions shown are the current Texas baseline. The edition adopted by the project jurisdiction, with its amendments, governs each project and is confirmed at kickoff.

Common questions

Does IgnitionTech practice engineering?
No. IgnitionTech provides code review, code consulting, and permit consulting. Where a jurisdiction requires a sealed engineering document, such as a structural rack drawing set or sprinkler hydraulic calculations, IgnitionTech coordinates with a licensed engineer in that state.
Which code edition applies to a project?
The edition adopted by the jurisdiction where the building sits, including that jurisdiction's amendments. IgnitionTech confirms the adopted edition at the start of every engagement because Texas cities and counties adopt on different schedules.

Request a project review

Describe the building and the deadline.

IgnitionTech replies with the code path, the documents the jurisdiction will expect, and a proposed scope. Correction letters and permit deadlines go to the front of the queue.

Need a second service on the same project?

Most projects pair two or three of these. One scope, one point of contact.
