Sprinkler Design Criteria and Submittal Review

A sprinkler system is only compliant for the hazard it was designed to protect. When the operation changes and the system does not, the building carries a gap that shows up in the fire marshal's inspection, the insurer's loss control report, or the fire.

IgnitionTech writes the design criteria that tie the sprinkler system to the actual storage and occupancy, then reviews the sprinkler contractor's shop drawings and hydraulic calculations against those criteria before they go to the AHJ. The contractor produces the drawings and the calculations. IgnitionTech makes sure they protect what is on the floor.

What IgnitionTech delivers

  • Sprinkler design criteria statement under NFPA 13 (2022), including the storage protection scheme, density or K-factor and pressure, design area, hose allowance, and in-rack requirements
  • Review of contractor shop drawings and hydraulic calculations for conformance to the design criteria and NFPA 13 Chapter 28
  • Water supply and fire pump adequacy review against NFPA 20 (2022) and the available flow test
  • Fire alarm and emergency communication criteria under NFPA 72 (2022) for the sprinkler monitoring and notification scope
  • Reconciliation of insurer recommendations with the adopted code and NFPA standards
